St. Mena, the holy, great martyr and Wonder-Worker, is greatly celebrated by Copts in Egypt. St. Mena was a decorated military soldier who served under the Centurion Firmilian. During the reign of persecution, St. Mena removed his military belt and left his post to live an ascetic life. Later in his life, after an apparition from the Lord, he returned to his previous home to confess his faith. After continuously refusing to deny his faith, he gave up his life for it, becoming a martyr for the Lord. Since his death, there have been numerous miracles and wonders performed by St. Mena including the finding of his laying place at Lake Bayad and his assistance in the Battle of El Alamein. St. Mena is noted for healing various illnesses, delivering people from possession by demons, and as a protector, especially during times of war.
